God can do a lot with skeptics, just ask Moses and Paul. Some of God's favorite people to use are skeptics. He has used them repeatedly to change the world.
However, skeptics that God uses shouldn't stay skeptical for long. Once God revealed himself to Moses and Paul, they didn't keep questioning him. They knew what he was capable of.
God has been challenging me with my skeptical attitude towards him.
My skepticism is revealed in my weak sauce prayers.
All my prayers end with a disclaimer to give God a way out. I love throwing in a "just in case you don't want to do this for me it's okay. Amen." Sound familiar?
It's better that way. If God has a way out, then I'm not hurt and confused if he doesn't answer my prayers.
I am constantly struggling with doubting whether or not God is willing to answer me. So my prayers are often watered down with low expectations for God. I find myself doubting how infinitely and passionately that God loves me.
See? Weak sauce!
What's amazing about Scripture is that when people prayed, they expected God to show up and do the impossible. People have literally changed the heart of God with prayer. Meaning your prayers can change history.
But for some reason, many skeptical Christian choose to believe that we are stuck. That our history is already written. That whatever happens is "God's will". We even will say that to comfort people in difficult times (which drives me crazy).
We have too many skeptical Christians. People who doubt whether or not God is willing to do anything. Maybe it's time we started praying like God is capable and willing to do something HUGE for us. Then, let's get to work and see how God is willing to change the world through us.
