A Non-Compelling Post On How to Make a Difference

Writing can be frustrating. Not like the actual penmanship (I've had that down for a few years now), but actually writing something worthwhile to read.

Some nights I stare at a blank computer screen with absolutely no idea what to write. You should try staring at a blank computer screen for thirty minutes. You'll be so frustrated that you would rather flush your eyes out with Visine and then watch Dance Moms, which is a form of cruel and unusual punishment.

You'll result to anything when inspiration is scarce.

I try to manipulate God.

"Oh, so you created everything in the world in six days, but you can't give me inspiration for a 250-500 word blog post? Really? You made the platypus! After all, this is for you!" Unfortunately, you can't manipulate God with your tantrums.

What becomes even more frustrating is a time like now.

For two weeks, I've had one word bouncing off the walls of my brain. But I can't think of a single way to compellingly communicate that one word to you (hence the title).

One effective way to tell you involved the Boston Marathon bombing, but it turned out that it would have been misleading. And I never want to mislead you.

So I'm stuck without a compelling way to tell you this one word. But I have to get it out of my head, before minor brain damage is incurred. The word has the power to ignite change in your life, in your community (the people you come into contact with), and it can spread from there.

The word is kindness.

People more than ever want to make a difference. You want to make a difference. I want to make a difference. That's why I'm willing to stare at a blank screen for thirty minutes. The difference you can make is with kindness.

Kindness makes a quicker impact than love.

Human love, typically, grows out of kindness. Of course, the source of our kindness flows from the love that we have found in Jesus Christ. But people on the outside cannot articulate that love yet. What draws them in is kindness.

Do you want to matter right now? Do you want to make a difference today? But you don't know where to start? Try being kind.
