The American Idol Church

What is your favorite singing competition?

Did you know that it can be compared to church?

American Idol-The sensation that started them all. American Idol can be compared to the early church. They started the movement. Without American Idol, where would singing shows fit into the 21st century? They brought the popularity back and caused other competitions to jump on the air. Without Idol there's no telling what we would be watching.

X Factor-Simon Cowell splits from American Idol? Could it be linked to its Lutheran roots? Martin Luther probably wore really tight fitting, solid colored robes. Regardless, that Brit happens to know a little more about class than the rest of us. I'm not going to lie, I went out and bought a lot of dark colored athletic shirts because of him. Simon made a choice to get away from Seacrest and changed whatever he wanted, just like Luther.

The Voice- Calvinists love The Voice. They predetermine who will be on the show. No open tryouts for this one. No humiliating people who want to change their lives and make their dreams come true. What's up with that? Is that even worth watching? The contestants are rather preselected and tryout for the show by invitation, just like some Calvinists believe people end up in heaven.

The Sing Off-Probably my favorite singing show. Voices only? Is that Nick Lachey a member of the Church of Christ? He reminds me of a simpler time back when 98ยบ was hot (both the band and the temperature). If there is a Church of Christ that can pull off Timberlake a cappella, I'd be finding me a new pew. I might even sit in the Pumped section.

America's Got Talent-Pentecostals founded the show because anything goes. Seriously, anything goes. The crazier the better, just like the crazier for Jesus the better. Have you ever been to a pentecostal service? You have NOT worshiped until the lady in front of you pulls a tambourine out of her purse. How does she even walk into McDonald's to get a cup of coffee? Or a kid almost pokes your eye out with a flag pole. And guess what? Shoes are optional! Anything goes! More like Pentecostal's Got Talent!

Nashville Star-It is like any church you have ever left. You might be one of those people who love country music. Yeah, I watched Nashville Star, but every since I broke up with country music I haven't allowed myself to go back. I apologize, but my taste changed. If you've ever left a church, you know what I'm talking about.

Question:
What do you think? What competition can be compared to your church?
