Vomit Inducing Words

Last summer on vacation I ran into one of my heroes from seminary. It was the first time I had ever actually met him, so I introduced myself.

He asked me what I was doing in the ministry and I froze. I couldn't even get out that I blogged. He left thinking I flunked out for not being able to put together coherent thoughts.

That's a question I get a lot.

"What are you doing in the ministry?"

I hate that question! Especially because for so long I found my identity in what I was going to do for Jesus.

And it's one that I never know how to answer.

The first time I told someone that I blogged, I vomited a little in my mouth.

Being a preacher's kid, I grew up around people who did vocational ministry. People who are in the ministry are pastors of some sort, not bloggers.

After all, anyone can have a blog. No joke, you can just sign up for one. In fact, I hear that there is a dog with a blog.

It has been humbling to tell people that I have a blog that a few people read.

After answering a call to ministry at 17 years old, my calling hasn't played out at all like I thought it was going to.

Blogging always seemed more like a hobby than a ministry.

But God is continually confirming that I am on the right path.

Someone commented on a post and thanked me for my ministry. And then someone sent me an email. Many of you understand what I'm doing more than pride will allow me to understand.

"Ministry" is a churchy word. All it means is one's service towards God. Every Christian should live lives that minister to God. I can't tell you how blessed I feel to have more and more people read Christian Gravy. My service is to love you with my words, brighten your day, and to rethink what it means to be a Christian.

God is taking me on a much different path than I thought I would be traveling.

I bet you know how that is!

Has your life turned out exactly like you thought it would?

Your back story would probably say no!

But here you are. Christian, if your life is turning out exactly like you planned then you are probably lacking something.

We want to control and fill our lives with our own plans. But that's the opposite of faith! Often times we see God the most clearly when we are standing in the midst of a life that we never dreamed of.

Question:
Whose path are you walking down?
