Being a Christian isn't easy.
It's a lot of work that you never completely finish. It's like doing the laundry.
At my house, even when all the laundry is washed and put away, there's still more to wash.
Why? Because there are four people wearing clothes that need to be washed. (Before children, I attempted "naked laundry day", but the wife shot that idea down.)
There's always at least half of a load.
There's always that sock that we can't find its sole mate. (Get it "sole" mate?)
My wife wears socks to bed and kicks them off in the middle of the night. There's always a collection of socks hiding under the covers or wedged between the mattress and the bed frame.
There are always sheets or towels that aren't clean.
It's impossible for us to get ALL of our laundry washed. There's always work to be done.
I don't mind doing laundry, if there is only a load or two. But when we've neglected to wash anything for a week or two, and we are faced with an overwhelming mountain of dirty clothes that's when I loathe it. My wife and I will look at each other and vow never to do it again, which of course inevitably it does.
Christian, there's always work to be done.
And that's okay because living life requires things to get dirty. Just unite with the Holy Spirit and do the next thing at hand.
