Two Purchases that Elevated My Faith

I purchased these two items at the first of summer.

The journal is a Midori Traveler's Notebook. It is a customizable notebook system. Meaning you can choose the inserts to taylor to your needs.

The pen is Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen with a medium nib.

These two purchases are tools that are elevating my faith.

I have journaled off and on since high school. (I know, I know, men aren't supposed to journal and if they do, they sure as heck aren't supposed to talk about it.)

Half-filled journals litter the cabinets in my study. Over the years, I've collected notebooks from Five-Star to Moleskins. Sorry hipsters, I just don't like the Moleskins.

Somewhere in the last year I quit journaling all together.

Then I started listening to John Eldredge's podcast Ransomed Heart. In one episode he talked about journaling and answering the question of, "What is God doing in your heart?"

I felt a divine nudge that I should start journaling again--focusing primarily on that one question of "What is God doing in my heart?"

For me to start journaling again on a consistent basis, I needed tools that motivated me. Sure I could use any pen and paper, but I needed something to jar me out of my funk.

After researching reviews, I discovered the Midori's Traveler's Notebook and I learned about the fountain pen world. If you've never written with a fountain pen, you should. There's just something special about them.

Journaling has become a daily habit for me now.

Daily I answer the question: "What is God doing in my heart?"

By focusing on that question I'm more aware of God's hand and I hear his voice much clearer. Reflection helps me to digest what is happening in my life and around me. This elevates my faith.

Journaling is a spiritual discipline that will benefit most believers.

So if you don't journal, go out and buy yourself a journal and a pen of some sort. It doesn't have to be expensive; although, I do highly recommend using a fountain pen. There is something about using a tool that is out of the ordinary to help me discover a life God is calling all Christians to lead--one that, too, is out of the ordinary.

Do you journal?
