That's my Chloe blessing our cinnamon bagels for breakfast yesterday. I trust her saying the prayer because how could God tell her no? So for the big stuff I go through her. Steven Furtick in Sun Stands Still says that prayer holds in it just about everything you need to know about God. He is great (he has power) and he is good (he loves you). We taught our girls to pray this prayer, because we wanted them to stop and give credit where credit is due before they eat. A few nights ago my wife was wise enough to discern that we were just saying the prayer to say it and not because we meant it. So we've slowed down and make sure we are mindful of what we are saying.
Christian, it is important for you to be thankful, in fact according to Paul it's God's will for you. He wrote to the Thessalonians give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (2 Thessalonians 5:18).
I know this is predictable, but since this is our first Thanksgiving together, I want to let you know what I'm thankful for.
#1-Christ. Christ is everything to me.
#2-My wife. Lacey is all that and a bag of chips. I'm 28 years old and can say that I have loved her for over half of my life. Wow!
#3-My girls. Ellie and Chloe are simply the two most precious gifts from God. They are the source of a thousand smiles every day.
#4-My family. I have godly parents, who I look up to in the faith. Simply amazing parent-in-laws, who do not deserve that title; it would be more fitting just to call them "parents". Two barely above average brothers. Five wonderful nieces and nephews provided by two supportive sister-in-laws. And a huge extended family with all four of my grandparents still living. Can you say "blessed"?
#5-My church. Crossland Community Church you all are really included #4. You are my family. What can you say about a church that Christ is using to change the world? A church you know that has God's favor? A place where people are actually happy to be around each other? I can't thank God enough for you. You are truly special and unique.
#6-My friends. I have some friends who really make life sweeter. They allow me to be myself, which is a relief. And they encourage and provide wisdom. Thank you.
#7-Martha Stewart. Obviously, she would not rank #7 on my list, so it's a little out of order. Every since Martha Stewart came onto the scene she has opened the door for Thanksgiving to be knocked up a level. Whether it's her or the people she paved the way for, Thanksgiving dinner looks and tastes better. Thank you for being an inspiration to my wife and her mother.
#8-My work. I'm thankful for a teaching job where I'm able to give back to God financially and support my family. I'm also thankful for my work at Crossland. I work with teenagers and adult volunteers at the church and they blow me away every week. Students, you inspire me, and adults teaming up with you this past year has been remarkable. The best is yet to come guys!
#9-You. I'm thankful for people who read Christian Gravy. Since launching on Monday the graph shows more readers every day. Who am I? I'm a nobody, but people all over the country read my blog. There is even someone from Ukraine! I'm humbled and honored at this opportunity and I hope you know that while I do not know all of you by name, I pray for you daily and hope that the Holy Spirit uses this blog to reach you wherever you need it. I don't know you, but I love you.
Question:
What are you thankful for?
