Jesus Would Drive 85

Did you hear that Texas opened the fastest highway last week?

Why does Texas have to be so awesome? And this is another reason why Texas is better than the rest of us. Every state suffers from Texas envy.

The highway is a 41 mile stretch where people may legally drive 85 miles per hour.

Why?

At first I thought it was to recruit future NASCAR drivers or so people could get to Joel Osteen's church quicker. But in the end it just has to do with money. Here is an article if you want to read all the details-Texas opens highway with 85 mph speed limit, fastest in America--is it too fast?

While watching a news report about this, it became clear that Jesus would have taken this highway. Even though some people say it isn't safe.

One of my favorite chapters in all the Bible will forever be John 4. In this chapter, Jesus is traveling from Jerusalem to Galilee. Mapquest would have Jesus getting to his destination quickest by walking north through Samaria. However, the Jews of Jesus' day walked around Samaria, since Samaritans were seen as unclean, religious half-breeds. It was unsafe for Jesus' reputation to visit Samaria.

But Jesus, like Texas, doesn't mind bucking tradition to get somewhere faster. Of course, Jesus intentionally planned on traveling through Samaria, because he had a message to the people. One that they received.

John 4 is so illuminating for the Christian, because it shows Jesus' love for the lost and his willingness to do anything to save them. Let's be honest, he didn't play it safe. He talked to a whore by a well and people saw him. And he didn't judge her, rather he revealed who he was to her. He valued her.

Christian, Jesus came to love the unlovable, in spite of his own safety. Like Jesus, you need to find the quickest route to them. And here is where you come in to the story, Jesus said to you:

"My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, 'One sows and another reaps.' I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor." John 4:34-38 (ESV).

Question:
Who do you need to love?
