6 Suggestions on How Christians Can Take Halloween Back

How come no one walks around during Halloween saying, "Remember the reason for the season"?

After all, the kids are forgetting the saints. They are only interested in guising and getting jacked up on candy.

I don't blame you, if you don't participate in Halloween. Stick with your conscience.

But if you do, here are six suggestions on how Christians can take Halloween back:
  1. We have this trunk-or-treat thing down. The masses seem to love getting candy out of the back of strangers' cars.
  2. Halloween used to be a day to pray for recently departed saints. So in spirit of this, whenever a trick-or-treater comes to your door, stop, hold their hands, and start praying for people who've died. I promise this will freak them out!
  3. In lieu of handing out candy, give them one of those Christian tracks. You know the one's that talk about how everyone is going to hell. That will scare the hell out of them!
  4. Throw a "Halloween Dress as Your Favorite Bible Character Party." Let's be honest, we love theme parties. If you need some ideas, check out Pinterest. I call dibs on Moses.
  5. Bring back the bells and soul cakes. People used to ring bells on Halloween, it's less spooky and get's us ready for Christmas. They also collected little soul cakes (whatever those are). But who doesn't love cake?
  6. Read a scary Bible story to your children. Yes, they are in there. King Saul visited a witch to conjure up the dead Prophet Samuel. In Daniel, a hand appears and starts writing on the wall. Can you say "fr-e-ak-y"? How about the NT? Jesus casted out demons. All happy endings, but definitely a little spooky. There was a Jewish sorcerer in Acts. (What's the difference between a Jewish and a Gentile sorcerer? Jewish sorcerers keep pig eyes out of their spell recipes.) Read just about any part of Revelation and your kids won't be able to sleep at night.
Question:
Do you have any suggestions on how Christians can take back Halloween?

How about the traditional game of pretend? Lock the door, close the blinds, turn off the lights - and pretend I'm not home game. That's got to be a good way to take back Halloween!?!

Great idea! Playing hide-and-seek will really bring out the Halloween spirit in others. Plus you get to keep more candy for yourself!
