Spiritual Baby Daddies

Christian, let me blow your mind for a moment.

Did you know that you can trace your Christian heritage all they way back to one of the original disciples of Christ? Say what?

This is the best thing since the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Let me bacon wrap this for you, since we all know bacon makes everything better. (By the way, only four degrees separate me from Kevin Bacon...seriously.)

Let me explain the 50 Degrees of Jesus.

Let's say a friend of yours named Mary shared the gospel with you when you accepted Jesus. Let's say you were to ask Mary who led her to Christ and she said that it was the Rev. Billy Graham. Billy Graham was "brought to the Lord" (that's old school SBC lingo) by the honorable Dr. Mordecai Ham. And then you were able to ask Porky who led him to Christ and he said he heard it from his neighbor Fred. And if you kept asking that same question for like 50 generations or so it would stretch all the way back to one of the original disciples who followed Jesus while he was kicking it here on earth.

More than likely it would be to one of the Big 12. Meaning Peter, James, John, Matthew, and so on. However, we know that there were about 108 faithful disciples during Jesus' crazy departure, so it be traced back to Mary, Martha, Lazarus, Barsabbas, or another one of his followers.

Just think about it: Your Christian roots spread all the way back to the people who could give Jesus the exploding rock.

I might set up a website and charge people a "nominal" fee to help them trace their Christian heritage. For $50 you can find your "Spiritual Baby Daddy". It works for Christian Mingle. Don't be disappointed if you get Thomas instead of Peter though, it could be worse--you could always get a no namer. Maybe Maury Povich will have a daytime show in heaven with lie detector tests and envelopes...I think I'll stop now.

This really blows my mind! Just think about it:

Christian, we as a people aren't born into faith, but faith is regenerative in nature and is reproduced through the sharing of the gospel. Now it's not us doing the work, but by sharing the gospel with others, believers are born through the Spirit and given eternal life. This is something that has been going on since Jesus was on Earth 2,000 years ago! Our life giving message has been reproducing for 2,000 years! If it wasn't, then there would be no Christians left (just ask the Shakers). The spoken and written word testimony has been the only way that people have been brought to Christ since his ascension. It is an incredible right and responsibility.

Question:
Who's your spiritual baby daddy?
