Christians should laugh more.
Seriously, it's like too many of us have a corncob stuck up our butts. If that statement made you mad, then I'm probably talking about you. It's no wonder why nonbelievers don't want to be around us.
Christians should be the happiest people on earth. Nay...(that's my word of the day, I'm tired of saying no) nay, we should be the most joy-filled people on the face of our Creator's big rock.
My parents can attest for this. I've always loved to laugh. As a young child, I would catch laughing fits. It was hilariously hurtful. I would start laughing and couldn't stop. I would be on the floor rolling and laughing. Gasping and holding my stomach. I have always loved to laugh.
My favorite thing in the world is to hear you laugh. So by default, I try to make you laugh. My wife says that when people meet me, they either think that I'm hilarious or a jerk. She thought the former and that's why I took Beyoncé's advice. (For those of you who aren't that hip, that means I put a ring on her finger.)
Whenever Lacey reads a Gravy post, I sit and wait for the giggles. Then I bug her, "What was your favorite part?" She has to be my guinea pig a lot. Laughter is one way that I determine the success of some posts. If you laugh, that makes your life a tad bit better and that's a "W" for me.
Laughter is contagious. It makes a difficult or a good life that much sweeter.
Why should you laugh more?
Because joy and laughter are closely linked.
Joy is evidence that the Holy Spirit is working in you. It is a fruit of the Spirit.
Joy's BFF is sweet Lady Laughter. You find yourself wanting to be around people who are joyful. Why? Because of the laughs and smiles you share while in their presence. Don't you feel better being around people like that? Unless you are drama-filled or emo, then I don't know what to tell you but to turn off Grey's Anatomy and quit listening to Adele.
This doesn't mean that Christians should go around telling and laughing at crude or hateful jokes. I've traveled the cheap laughter road (and still mess up sometimes). Trust me, it's good for nothing. But Christians shouldn't be afraid to laugh.
Christian, see how often you smile and laugh today. Check yourself and see how joyful you are. Look to see where and how the Spirit is working in your life. Then make the necessary adjustments.
