How harmless can a clock be?
For the last two months, this abomination has wielded (learned that word from Lord of the Rings) power over me like nothing else in this world.
It has been unrelenting in pursuit of my soul. It's possessed by Lucifer himself.
Everyday the clock firsts causes me to doubt something. Once it get's me to doubt, I begin to worry. Worry leads to fear. And fear can be crippling.
That's how it is with life.
Doubt leads to worry which leads to fear.
What does it cause me to fear? Time.
With ever single tick, my fear spoke to me in a Willem Dafoe voice, "You're running out of time. It's getting late. You won't finish. You'll be tired in the morning. You have nothing good to write. No one is going to read it."
I hate the feeling that I'm running out of time.
Time is the one thing that causes me to doubt, worry, and fear what's going on in my life. It's the one thing that Jesus consistently has to tell me, "Peace" about.
The crazy thing about this clock is that it's broken.
My wife bought it for my daughter's room a year or two ago, but never put batteries in it. When my daughter wanted an alarm clock, I gave it juice.
We quickly discovered it to be broken, but somehow it ended up in my kitchen where I write.
At first I enjoyed the ticking. It reminded me of my grandparent's house in the mountains of North Carolina, where the cuckoo clock would lull me to sleep.
It wasn't long before it started feeling like a ticking time bomb. When everything else was quiet, my adversary spoke up.
Why didn't I just take the batteries out? I have no idea. Stupidity, I suppose.
It never even occurred to me until a few minutes ago.
Why did I listen to the source of my fear for that long?
Especially, when the clock was only correct two times a day for one second! It was only correct two times out of 86,400 seconds in a day! I don't have time to fear something that is almost always wrong.
The thing that causes you to doubt, worry, and fear are rarely correct. They don't know you. You do not have time to let it cripple you. So whatever is causing you to doubt, worry, or fear, you need to take care of.
Question:
What do you need to take care of that ruins your life with doubt, worry, and fear?
