(Seriously) Pray for Boston

What about the tragic events that took place in Boston yesterday?

A day that overshadowed even the deadline for filing taxes. It wasn't even mentioned! And no one was arguing about taxes for once.

The tragic event created a somber attitude across America. Two things really struck me.

First, America is willing to rally behind a few.

I was at home with a sick child when social media started being hashtagged with "Pray for Boston." I switched the channel from Disney Jr. to see the coverage.

At that point, there had only been two fatalities and 23 people injured. Now we know that it were three fatalities (with one being an eight year old), but what struck me is how we have the potential to show great love, support, and sympathy for only a few.

It is encouraging to think that we are willing to become this passionate about a hand full of people.

Second, Brian Williams' concluding remarks on the special coverage last night seemed prophetic. (As in speaking the truth, not telling the future.)

He showed this picture by Commander Chris Hadfield. Commander Hadfield had taken this picture of Boston from the Space Station.

To conclude the report, Brian Williams said, "...maybe a little distance from the tragedy. Today the view from space will help some folks remember our relative size and scope of all this."

This echoes numerous Bible verses.

There really isn't any need to go into deep discussion about this, but to say: whatever you are doing, make sure it is worth it.

Christian, you serve the eternal God, the maker of the heavens and earth. Don't forget that. Allow that to help guide the way that you live.

Lastly, we get caught up in social media and the news that we tend to become trendy. Don't say that you are going to pray for Boston. Don't just hashtag something because you feel something. Actually, pray for them.
