A Story of Skepticism and Wonder

Found this little guy on the porch today.

He's kind of ugly, but God used him to talk to me. Not like Balaam's talking donkey or Shrek's donkey, but he spoke to my soul. We shared a moment.

He's an interesting little yellow fellow with some sweet worship pastor hair going on, so I had my girls come outside to look.

My four year old was amazed. She thought she had a new best friend and wanted to hold him. She wanted to keep him forever. Of course, my wife shot that dream down.

My six year old on the other hand was scared. I had him on a stick and she was saying, "Daddy, it's going to fall off and land on your hand" and "What if it gets inside?"

Two girls with the same exact DNA with two totally different reactions. What separated their responses? Only age and life experiences.

The younger was fascinated at the wonder of something she had never seen. The older was a skeptic.

This is what happens with our faith. We start out in fascination, but we grow skeptical.

Everything about the gospel, Jesus' grace, the work of the Holy Spirit, and how God loves us is fascinating. It's a glorious mystery!

Don't allow life to teach you otherwise.

What glorious mystery fascinates you about God?
