On the Ukraine

There is political unrest in the world.

For one country that political unrest has resulted in bloodshed. And it looks like there is more to come.

It's really scary.

And guess what?

I don't care!

Chances are you don't care either.

Do you know how much I have prayed for Ukraine over the last few days?

Zero.

Will that's not entirely truthful. I felt guilty about not praying for them, so I said the world's quickest prayer to cover myself.

So one time.

How much have you prayed? (Other than me saying that and then you saying the world's quickest prayer?)

Chances are you have probably prayed about the same amount for them as I have.

We simply don't care.

By "we" I mean Christians from America.

We are more worried with our own worries. We aren't concerned with the pain of others.

We even try to make their conflict about us.

Most Americans are more concerned with how President Obama handles the situation than the people being hurt in Ukraine. I know I have been. People are taking this as an opportunity to criticize (or support) our president, rather than truly caring about what's going on. We say things like: he is using this as a distraction from ObamaCare. Don't get me wrong, I'm ticked about ObamaCare, but this has nothing to do with that.

The conflict in Ukraine isn't about President Obama or us for that matter.

But we do need to pray for President Obama and our government for wisdom in how we deal with the situation.

Ukraine has 45 million people with only about 2% Christian.

There are people to pray for.

There are Christians to pray for.

There is an overwhelming majority of people who need Jesus.

So pray for Ukraine. Maybe you need to repent for your lack of love for others (I had to).

Learn about what's going on in Ukraine, so you can pray even more.

Here's one way you can do that:

Caleb Suko is a missionary in Ukraine. If you want a Christian insider's view of what's going on in the Ukraine, follow him on Twitter (@sukofamily) or read his blog (www.sukofamily.org). (He also has an awesome beard.) Pray for him and his family.

As a Christian, who is also an American, it's time we take an interest in things other than ourselves.

(By the way, if you have been praying and taking an interest in what's going on in Ukraine, I'm not talking to you.)
