Circumstances Have You Down?

Sorry for the lack of posting, but it has been a hectic week with the polar vortex and returning to work from Christmas Break and all. It has left me extremely tired and unmotivated to do much between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.

Getting back into a routine is proving to be quite the formidable foe. Can you relate?

However, I read something in Habakkuk this week that I can't shake. It has invaded my heart and mind.

That's right, Habakkuk!

Has Driscoll or Stanley written a book using Habakkuk? Probably not.

Who reads Habakkuk? That doesn't sell.

Your pastor probably hasn't preached a sermon from there. (Unless, they were doing a survey of the Old Testament…in which case you probably stayed home that week. Or the youth pastor was trying to start a revolution.)

The Apostle Paul did quote Habakkuk (but the righteous shall live by faith), so H-Kuk does have some Jerusalem street cred.

If you are unfamiliar with the three chapter book in the OT, it's similar to Job. It's about a guy who questioned God's justice. He struggled to understand why things were the way that they were. He's probably a lot like you and me.

But it is how he closed his writing that has bothered me. He left with an understanding that circumstances don't dictate who God is.

If you find your circumstances in life less than desirable, I hope this passage can be your prayer.

Do you allow circumstances to dictate who God is?
